It was our privilege to design the interior of this prestigious canal house on Amsterdam’s Singel, dating back to 1880. Situated on what was once a medieval defensive moat, the residence possesses an inherently powerful character, defined by its soaring ceilings and refined architecture. With over twenty-one meters of canal frontage and generous windows, the property offers a rare sense of connection to the water—an unparalleled experience of living both on and by the canal.
Our objective was to accentuate these qualities by creating a serene environment where luxury and hospitality converge. To enhance the building’s historical layering, we curated a selection of renowned design classics from esteemed houses such as Knoll, Poltronova, B&B Italia, ClassiCon, Vitra, and Fritz Hansen. These iconic pieces elevate the interior to an even higher level, enriching the spaces with a distinct, curated character.
In line with the client’s vision, a striking diagonal kitchen was realized, creating a dynamic and unexpected flow within the living area. The residence further accommodates two bedrooms, each featuring ensuite bathrooms crafted entirely from natural stone for a sense of timeless luxury. A unique winding staircase serves as a sculptural centerpiece, elegantly connecting the home’s different levels.
Through a sophisticated balance of materials and textures, a cohesive aesthetic was ensured. The result is a residence with a seamless flow between spaces, where the building’s unique architectural identity is fully realized.
