THONET 215 R DINING CHAIR

Sale price€1.110,00

The famous coffee house chair stands as an iconic symbol, widely regarded as the world’s most successful mass-produced product to date, and marks a pivotal moment in the history of modern furniture. Its origins were rooted in a groundbreaking technique – solid wood bending – a method innovated and perfected by Michael Thonet in the 1850s, ushering in serial furniture production. This era also saw the introduction of an ingenious distribution model: 36 disassembled chairs could be efficiently packed into a one-cubic-meter box, shipped worldwide and assembled on site. With its clean and minimalist aesthetic, this classic masterpiece has graced a diverse range of settings for over 150 years.

In terms of sustainability, the wood for the 214 is carefully sourced from sustainably managed forests. Its exceptional quality and timeless aesthetics contribute to its remarkable durability, allowing for easy repairs at any time. These commendable features were recognized by the jury of the German Sustainability Award, who gave our sustainable model, which has gracefully survived over 160 years of changing fashions and trends, the honor of winning in the Design category for 2021.
