THONET 218 DINING CHAIR

Originally manufactured in 1876, model no. 18, distinguished by its striking "hairpin" backrest, makes a return to the Thonet portfolio with a renewed identity as 218. This reintroduction maintains the chair's clear and minimalist aesthetics. Alongside chairs no. 14 and no. 56, chair no. 18 stood out as one of Thonet's bestsellers. Recognized as the "export chair" of Gebrüder Thonet, it found popularity in restaurants and cafés, particularly in South America. Notably, it could be efficiently disassembled into individual parts, with 36 chairs fitting into a sea chest, enabling easy transportation of large quantities on long journeys. No. 18, now reimagined as model no. 218, is once again being produced in Frankenberg.
