Thonet S 43

The Thonet S 43 chair is a cubic chair without hind legs. Simplicity that resonates everywhere: Mart Stam eliminated the hind legs from chairs that had been made for centuries following the same principles. Through evolutionary refinement, an object is created that simply fits well in any place where both understatement and quality are desired. For his furniture designs, Mart Stam placed great emphasis on usability and simplicity, both in terms of aesthetics and materials. The straight-line form, a clear construction, and improved seating comfort are the result of this approach. With the sled chair S 43 from Thonet, Stam achieved the greatest possible reduction by combining the steel tube frame with preformed wooden elements for the seat and backrest.
