CLASSICON Corker No.1 marble side table

The silhouette of a champagne cork served as inspiration for Herzog & de Meuron when designing the Corker, a piece of furniture that can be used as a stool or side table. The addition of a marble version to the popular product family further emphasises the monolithic character of the design: the object made of coloured natural stone appears like a sculpture in the room. "One could almost understand the Corker as a Pop Art object because it was created directly and without significant plastic deformation by enlarging an existing object from our everyday culture," says Jacques Herzog. The piece of furniture made of polished or matt marble is not only aesthetically but also haptically very appealing: the tactile properties of natural stone invite you to touch it – the cool, smooth surface contrasts with the warm, velvety cork of the original designs.
